Zoltán Kodály – Háry János Suite (Performed by Georg Solti & the Wiener Philharmoniker)

Tonight was opening night for the new orchestra season, and this is the last piece from our program. I had never heard of this composer, let alone this piece, but it is fun, and features a cimbalom, or a traditional Hungarian hammered dulcimer. The suite is from an opera of the same name about a retired Hungarian soldier recounting (and significantly inflating) his stories from the war with Napoleon. The suite ends at 24 minutes into the video.
